My role with the GEMINI team:
I am a hospital-based general internist at St Michaels Hospital and Scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. I am co-lead of the GEMINI program. I am also the Provincial Co-Lead, Quality Improvement in General Internal Medicine at Ontario Health, and I find this a great fit for my clinical work and research focus.
At the University of Toronto, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. I am a member of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table.
My educational background:
I did my undergraduate degree in the Engineering Science Program at the University of Toronto specializing in Biomedical Engineering. My medical training (Medical School, Residency and Fellowship) were all at the University of Toronto.
My research training started with an MSc in the Health Research Methodology Program at McMaster University, and after my medical training I spent 3 years at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies as a David E Bell Fellow.
My past experience and accomplishments:
Before I worked on GEMINI, I used to mainly focus on global health research. Some of my formative experiences include working at the Population Health Research Institute to develop the PURE study and at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies where I worked on analyzing the Demographic Health Surveys.
I was a co-founder of the Rounds Table Internal Medicine Podcast at Health Debate which has been downloaded 300,000 times in 115 countries.
I feel most inspired when:
I can see something grow that I have nurtured and cared for. For GEMINI, I feel inspired as I see our team grow stronger and more skilled in striving to achieve the complex and broad goals we have set for ourselves.
